To celebrate our 15th anniversary at Barrel, we’ve curated 1 project from each year since 2006 to showcase our growth & evolution.

Kang & Kim
2006

Prior to becoming Barrel, co-founders Peter Kang and Sei-Wook Kim kicked off their business adventures with a studio website. Early clients featured university clubs, student-run events, and small nonprofits.

Kang & Kim would be short-lived as an entity, but it set the foundation for a long partnership.

One Million Voices
2007

Working with KIND founder Daniel Lubetzky, who championed peace between Palestine and Israel through his OneVoice Movement, we helped launch the One Million Voices campaign website to bring awareness & advocacy for a peaceful resolution.

Steamboat Foundation
2008

The Steamboat Foundation was a nonprofit that placed student fellows into various summer job opportunities while providing leadership training.

We worked on a redesign of their website, which showcased the fellows and program partners as well as the roster of prominent guest speakers.

Astrum Solar
2009

We worked closely with founder Vadim Polikov to develop the branding, website, and marketing materials for residential solar startup Astrum Solar.

The company would go on to quickly scale and be a leading provider of solar installations on the East Coast. It was later acquired by Direct Energy.

Sanctuary T Shop
2010

Sanctuary T was a restaurant and tea shop in Soho. We worked with founder Dawn Cameron to conceive of a direct-to-consumer ecommerce experience.

We helped to handle all aspects of bringing the project to life, from packaging designs to product photography to ecommerce website and marketing campaigns.

The Sanctuary T Shop, built on Magento, was featured on numerous website galleries and recognized for its design.

Launch Effect
2011

Seeing a need for a better "coming soon" landing page experience, we launched our own WordPress theme that allowed users to quickly customize and deploy a website that could be used to collect emails.

Launch Effect had over 100,000 downloads and was covered in publications like Tech Crunch and The Next Web. It was a popular choice among startups.

New Music USA
2012

New Music USA fosters the creation of new music in the United States. We worked with the nonprofit to rebrand and redesign their website.

We capitalized on the trend towards responsive web design with a fully mobile-capable website along with distinct visual brand that was widely recognized including a Site of the Day win on Awwwards.

Brooklyn Gin
2013

We worked with craft spirits brand Brooklyn Gin to create a minimal website to highlight the elegant and cocktail-friendly gin. We also handled the photography for the launch.

The website was a favorite bookmark of designers, being featured on Site Inspire and countless other design blogs.

KIND Ecomm Store
2014

The KIND ecommerce store was a major overhaul of their direct-to-consumer experience. We explored and designed a completely new navigation approach to help surface and guide users to the growing lineup of KIND's healthy snacks.

The redesign was a major step for the brand in laying the foundations for DTC relationships with their customers.

Jacob's Pillow Dance Interactive
2015

Our initial project with dance festival nonprofit Jacob's Pillow was the creation of a digital library of their video archives. Jacob's Pillow Dance Interactive was an instant hit and drew new visitors to the website while increasing awareness about the festival's enduring history.

We went on to redesign the Jacob's Pillow .org website, further enriching their storytelling capabilities and ability to connect with their audience.

Well+Good
2016

When Well+Good came to us, they were a fast-growing blog looking to establish themselves as a media business. We worked closely with their team to reimagine the website while carefully orchestrating an SEO strategy to preserve their high-ranking pages.

The result was a fresh new redesign that helped to propel the company into a major player in the wellness publication space. Well+Good was acquired by the Leaf Group in 2018. We've continued to be a partner in helping scale and expand the website.

Bastide
2017

Working with entrepreneur Frederic Fekkai, we helped launch Bastide, a French lifestyle and beauty brand that evokes the feel of Fekkai's hometown of Provence.

Bastide showcased our ability to turn a Shopify ecommerce site into an immersive and luxurious experience.

We continued our work with Fekkai and in 2021, helped to launch the redesign of haircare brand Fekkai.com.

MOSCOT
2018

Iconic eyewear brand MOSCOT engaged us to reimagine their flagship ecommerce experience on Shopify Plus. The result was a seamless browsing experience with full cross-border capabilities to cater to MOSCOT's global audience.

Barry's
2019

Barry's, one of the hottest brands in fitness, engaged Barrel to makeover their global corporate website and to upgrade their ecommerce experience.

The new site unified both fitness bookings and merchandise sales under a seamless user experience.

Hu
2020

Co-founders Jordan Brown, Jason Karp, and Jessica Karp took their passion for health and sourced the best ingredients to create a line of healthy snacks. As the brand began to scale up from their single store location in Union Square to national distribution at retailers like Whole Foods, Hu engaged us to take their ecommerce efforts to a new level.

Rowing Blazers
2021

Rowing Blazers is a highly sought-after streetwear brand known for its youthful, self-aware, and ironic take on “preppy” fashion.

We worked closely with the Rowing Blazers team to redesign their ecommerce experience to properly showcase the vibrant collections and unparalleled collaborations. We also helped to upgrade their cross-border capabilities and enhance customer engagement through email marketing automations.
