A New Home for Dance Theatre of Harlem
Dec 5, 2018
Barrel worked with the team at Dance Theatre of Harlem to launch a new website experience. Dance Theatre of Harlem is a leading dance institution, encompassing a performing ensemble, a leading arts education center and a national and international education and community outreach program, Dancing Through Barriers®. Founded in 1969 by Arthur Mitchell and Karel Shook, Dance Theatre of Harlem has grown into a multi-cultural dance institution with an extraordinary legacy of providing opportunities for creative expression and artistic excellence that continues to set standards in the performing arts. Dance Theatre of Harlem has achieved unprecedented success, bringing innovative and bold new forms of artistic expression to audiences in New York City, across the country and around the world.
The new website brings Dance Theatre of Harlem’s online experience to the level of its mission and programming and allows the organization to be a resource to the community at large. A core initiative of the website redesign was ensuring the site was optimized for mobile and making it easy for people to learn about the organization an find performances on their mobile devices.
The new site, built on WordPress, gives the client flexibility to create pages as they launch new programs and host new events. The site uses a modular design and development system that allows the site to scale with the organization.
For the past 12 years, Barrel has collaborated with numerous non-profit organizations to think strategically about their digital experiences. Barrel’s work with Dance Theatre of Harlem adds to the agency’s growing roster of clients in the arts such as Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, Alvin Ailey, and the Merce Cunningham Trust.
